Lippert introduces Lippert Power Net, the next-generation energy management for recreational vehicles
Lippert Power Net-In the ever-evolving world of recreational vehicles, the reliability and efficiency of on-board electrical systems are more important than ever. Modern vehicles are increasingly connected and sophisticated, and therefore, solutions are required to respond flexibly to the new needs of manufacturers and users. This is the context of Lippert’s new proposal, resulting from decades of experience and an ongoing exchange of information with European industry called Lippert Power Net.
It is a distributed, modular energy management ecosystem, developed at Plant 317 in Markdorf (formerly known as Schaudt by Lippert). It is designed to reduce weight, complexity, and production costs while maximizing connectivity and functionality for end users.
“In other words, we are putting the intelligence of a smart home on wheels“, explained Ulrich Kiebler, General Manager of Plant 317. “The demands of flexibility and complexity in today’s vehicles require a new approach, and this is why we have distributed intelligence across multiple interconnected devices in the vehicle“.
The Lippert Power Net system consists of four main parts. The CPS (Central Power Supply) module ensures a stable power supply by dynamically adapting to the vehicle’s energy needs. The IPD (Intelligent Power Distribution) devices convey power to the various consumers, and the SCG (Smart Connectivity Gateway) module is responsible for wireless connectivity and OTA (Over-The-Air) updates using the mobile phone network. Finally, there is the ISC (Intelligent Sensor Control) unit, to which the various sensors and interfaces between the system and the user are connected, useful for adjusting the intensity of lights, monitoring water levels, or managing external relays, for instance. Everything can be controlled from a touchscreen display (DT) installed on board or using an app.
Compared with traditional centralized systems, Lippert Power Net requires only three wires to interconnect all devices. This greatly simplifies installation, reducing wiring weight and improving component accessibility.
The system is equipped with smart fuses that can detect faults before they occur and automatically send notifications to the user in case of problems. With remote connectivity capabilities, remote intervention by technicians or workshops is also possible, offering an unprecedented level of after-sales service.
Lippert Power Net is the result of an intensive exchange of information with leading European recreational vehicle manufacturers and expresses a new standard for tomorrow’s vehicle electric infrastructure.
Lippert is looking forward to seeing you at the Caravan Salon in Düsseldorf (Hall 14, Stand C05) for a sneak peek of this and many other exciting innovations.
